Go to school, get into a good college, get a good job, buy a car, then a house, get married by 30, have a child, then another. This is society’s idea of a successful life. But what if society’s definition of a successful life is not for you? Is it time for you to carve an alternative path to success, freedom, and happiness?

Ever wondered how people some manage to plan and execute their somewhat unconventional  lifestyles, that enables them to live with time, location and even financial freedom? We know lots of people are doing it, but lets explore a real life example.

This video discusses how people can design their lives based on their own priorities, rather than conforming to societal expectations. It is a real-life example of a couple who have given up a conventional lifestyle to explore the world, work remotely, and make videos documenting their experiences.

The bullet points in this Video

    • Money is important, but should not dictate life.
    • Globalization, changing economies, and technological advancements can take away jobs.
    • The Internet has opened up a world of possibilities, allowing us to learn skills, get paid, and build a career around what we love.
    • Gave up conventional life in Bangalore to explore the world. No traditional expenses, work from anywhere with internet connection. The pandemic made it necessary to be flexible about life and career. Chose to do it while young rather than after retirement.
    • Lifestyle design involves designing your life around what you want. Identify your priorities, such as valuing experiences over material things and exploring the world. It’s okay to not want what others are doing or pursue the traditional path. Once you know your priorities, figure out what you need to make them happen.
    • Obstacles that stand between you and your ideal life include hesitating to start, worrying about being good enough, and worrying about what others think. The only person you have to impress is yourself. People are often threatened by others pursuing their dreams, so it is important to put yourself out there and not try to please everyone.
    • Recognize your talent early and nurture it every day. The fastest way to get really good at something is to put in the time to get better.
    • Be curious, open-minded, experiment, find yourself, and take risks.
    • One thing to note is that they do not have children yet.. (hmm that’s an important factor enabling them to be nomadic).

    To recap

    • Step one is to define your priorities.
    • Step two learn the skill required or figure out the things you need to do to make the priorities happen.
    • Step three don’t give into self-doubt or worry about what people will say. Life is short. If you want to travel the world and have a career at the same time, you can.
